Current Litter - Due Oct.3rd, 2013

My current litter is  "Wilson" (CH.Keliaire Just Stranded) who was bred to "Rio" (GCH. Galewinns Tramore Unassuming Grace).  Rio has been bred....so puppies should be due October 3rd, 2013.  This will be Rio's second litter and she is 3-1/2  years old.

Wilson is a young male who easily finished his championship.  His grandmother is a girl that I bred (CH. Keliaire Galewinns Field of Dreams) and I have sure liked what she has produced.  Wilson has some australian blood lines on one side of his pedigree that have produced some very healthy dogs.  Wilson has 4 littermates that have finished their championships as well.  He is a large male with a very dark, straight coat and a wonderful temperament. He is smart and very trainable and easy to live with.  I think he will compliment Rio very nicely.

Rio's first litter produced 4 very nice puppies - 2 girls and 2 boys.  The two boys in her first litter have  already has finished their championships, one at 14 months old ( CH. Galewinns Rio Bravo) and the male that I kept is "Tank (Galewinns Rio Grande)" and he recently finished with a 5 point major at 17 months old.  This litter was bred artificially (long distance) so I am hoping that I will get a larger litter with breeding her  Wilson.  Rio has a lot of talent in the field and is one of the smartest irish setters I have ever had.  She finished her conformation championship very easily and could easily have field and performance titles if I only had the time.  She is an "easy keeper" and such a joy to have around.  She is a smaller girl and I think Wilson's size and his lovely temperament will make for a nice breeding.

Please contact me if you are interested in a puppy from this breeding.  I believe these puppies will be great in the show ring, the performance ring, and the field.

7/15/13 - Rio is in season!!!  This means we will hopefully be having puppies in the beginning of October - woohoo!!

Aug 2, 3, & 4th, 2013 - Rio is bred!!  So...now the waiting game starts!  Keep your fingers crossed for a nice big litter!!  If she is pregnant she will be due on Oct. 3rd, 2013.

Aug. 19th, 2013 - I have a good feeling that Rio is pregnant!  She is ravenous with food, a bit clingy with me, and a bit grumpy with the other dogs!! :)

Aug. 30, 2013 -  I did an ultrasound on Rio today - she is "full of puppies"!!  So excited....puppies due on October 3rd. Scroll down to see the ultrasound picture.

Sept. 23rd - Rio is getting huge!!  I listened to puppy heartbeats last night as I have a doppler - lots of heartbeats and they are strong and healthy.  Can't wait....one week left!

Oct. 3rd, 2013 Puppies are here!!!!  Twelve little healthy young uns!!  We have 7 girls and 5 boys and all are doing well.  We ended up doing a C-section because the vet was worried that with such a big litter she might lose some in whelping...and it was late in the day and I didn't want to end up at an emergency vet clinic!  Rio is doing well and is a GREAT mom.  Stay tuned for pictures of the little darlings!

Oct. 7th, 2013
- Puppies are gaining weight nicely - all are between 13-17 ounces right now.  Very active puppies!  Dew claws removed today - thanks so much to Rachel Obrien for helping me get this done.  They all did great and hardly noticed the trip to the vet.  I think Rio enjoyed getting out today.

Oct. 8th, 2013 - Nails trimmed for the first time.  And I replaced all of their yarn collars - amazing that in 5 days they need bigger collars!  They are gaining weight nicely and I am thoroughly enjoying spending time with them.

Oct. 14th, 2013 - Changed their collars again as they were getting too small again.  Trimmed their nails again - they aren't to fond of that so I did the back feet while they were nursing! Eyes are opening....

Oct. 21st, 2013 - Changed out all of their bedding and linens underneath the whelping box.  I put the puppies in some bins while I was cleaning.  After I put them back in the whelping box they nursed for a bit and then were completely sacked out!  I tried to wake them up for pictures but to no avail....I guess I wore them out!!

Oct. 27th, 2013 - Puppies had "real" food for the first time today.  Sure didn't take long for them to figure it out.  They have teeth now so Rio isn't near as anxious to feed them!

Nov. 15th, 2013 - Puppies get to go outside for the first time!  They were a little "shocked" at first and then had so much fun chasing mom around the big yard.  So grateful for 60 degree weather in November in Colorado!

Nov. 17th, 2013 - The puppies are learning to go in and out of the doggy door.  Usually I can't leave it open during the winter with puppies...but it has been so warm here that I thought I would open it up.  Absolutely amazing how quickly they are learning to go in and out and they are really good and pottying outside!  Sure makes my job a lot easier!

Nov. 29th, 2013 - White girl goes to her new home!  Her new name is Mickey and she lives with the Moyer family in Denver.  What a great life she is going to have!

Nov. 30th, 2013 - Diane Mendelsohn flew in today to pick her puppy and she choose the yellow girl.   Her new name is Flame and she will be running agility as well as being shown in the conformation ring.  Congrats Diane on your pick!!

Nov. 30th, 2013 - Dan and Frieda Hanley of Avon, Colorado, are now the proud new owners of the purple girl!  Her name is Rory and she will be living with another irish setter named Bode.  Rory will be living in the lap of luxury!

Dec. 2, 2013 - Blue boy goes to his new agility home with Carole Evans of Franktown, Colorado.  His registered name is going to be Galewinns Rum Runner and his call name is Tim.  He is going to so enjoy living with such a phenomenal trainer and judge - he is one lucky boy!!

Dec. 4th, 2013 - Brown boy flies to Phoenix, Arizona to his new home with Violet Morgan!  The flight took a bit longer than expected so he was VERY happy to see his new mom!!  Look for him in the show ring.  His name is still pending....:)
